Patsy Hatfield Lawson (of Hatfield-McCoy fame) grew up in the Appalachian Mountains listening to her Mama and Aunt Ruby bicker.The little girl from East Tennessee went on to get her Master’s Degree in psychology and to become an award winning college professor, and nationally recognized storyteller. A two-time winner of the Outstanding Faculty Award in Teaching, Patsy combines her Tennessee storytelling upbringing with keen insights about human behavior.
A professional storyteller who was chosen by NPR to present their Christmas Eve program, Patsy has also received the Innovations Award for Technology in Teaching and is a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist in TN.
A former practicing therapist for over 12 years Patsy combines her extensive knowledge of psychology, and counseling with southern charm to deliver hilarious and touching programs that offer hope, humor and understanding. Her clients include; Vanderbilt University, The National Management Association, Renaissance Center, Blount Memorial Hospital, as well as numerous other corporations, associations, nursing groups, educational groups, hospitals, senior centers, and churches.
Her most popular programs include “Coming Home to Appalachia.”She has produced three storytelling CD’s, “Perfect Quilts and Burnt Coffee”, “Aunt Ruby’s Funeral Trip”, and just released, "Weddings, School and Other Disasters."
In the fall of 2006 “Aunt Ruby’s Funeral Trip” was nominated for Best Storytelling CD in Los Angeles.
